Norwegian Centre for Research, Education and Service Development

The Norwegian Centre of Dementia was established in 1997 as a medical resource centre.

 After the reorganization of specialist services in 2002, the Centre was organized under the Psychiatry Department in
Vestfold Heath Authority and the Medical Division of Ullevaal University Hospital. At the start of the year
2007, the name of the Centre was changed to the Norwegian Centre for Dementia Research.


In 2007, the Ageing and Health,  Norwegian Centre for Research, Education and Service Development consists of the Norwegian Centre for Dementia Research and the units Functional Disabilty and Ageing (FoA) and Ageing
in People with Intellectual Disability UAU) has been continued.

Starting in 2008, UAU it will be a separate professional unit under the name of Intellectual Disability
and Ageing (UA).


Assingements and Areas of Focus after establishment in 1997, the Centre was given the
mission by the Ministry of Health and Welfare to work within the following four areas of focus:

1. Research and development projects for the
improvement of care and treatment for people
with dementia and their next of kin

2. Counselling and Guidance for municipal and specialist
health services in connection with trials of new models for treatment and care of people with
dementia.

3. Providing education of affected target groups.

4. Developing teaching materials.
Today, these areas of concentration remain the goal
for all units of the Centre.
